to potty or not to potty?...that is the question.
so jaccob and i have been asking ourselves if isabela is ready to hurdle the big step that is potty training. it may seem like an easy task, to you or me, but to a little girl of 2 yrs. old it can be somewhat daunting. i'm a little nervous myself and can't help but feel a little stressed over the whole situation. part of me wishes i could hold off on it for a little while longer, because taking care of anya keeps me pretty well occupied, but i don't want to be one of those mothers whose big kid is still going poopy in their diaper (no disrespect to anyone who thinks differently, that is just how i feel about it).
we bought her her very own potty like 2-3 months ago and she does seem pretty enthusiastic about it :) i try and tell her that when she needs to go pee pee and poo poo to come get me so she can go to the potty, so i'm hoping one of these days she'll actually do it. sometimes when i go into the bathroom she'll go with me and sit fully clothed on her potty :) she looks like such a big girl, trying to be just like mommy!
once again i've turned to babycenter.com (actually, just like i have pretty much for everything ever since i was pregnant with isabela!) as my source for all things potty related. they have this really neat potty training readiness checklist to help you decide whether you should begin the process or not. going through the list i've been able to check off a lot of the points they have on there, such as she's really good at telling me she has a wet/dirty diaper and she understands the value of putting things where they belong (the first being a behavioral sign and the latter being a cognitive sign). according to the experts, isabela's "general trend toward independence" is a tell-tale sign that she is ready to start...i guess my gut feeling was right on. always trust your mother's intuition, right?!
so i guess i've pretty much answered that question...it's a go for us!! wish us luck :) as always, prayers are extremely welcomed!! i've been looking on amazon.com at potty training books that would be helpful and i think i've narrowed it down to these two- once upon a potty by alona frankel and big girls use the potty! by dk publishing. who knew there were so many books out there on going pee pee and poo poo?! haha!!! time to get out my credit card!
