what it's all about.

last night i was reminded again why i love doing what i do, being a mom. not that i need constant daily reminders or anything, just seeing my girls every day is enough for me!

jaccob and i were downstairs watching a movie and the girls were asleep in their rooms. isabela had been asleep for a couple of hours already when all of a sudden she started crying. it's been a long time, and i mean a loooong time since she's woken up in the middle of the night, so i knew something had to be wrong. i went upstairs to check in on her and found her sitting up in her crib.

jaccob had been the one to take her upstairs to go nighty night because i was busy feeding anya at the time to take her myself. since the weather here in VA has been getting warmer he thought it would be o.k. if she didn't wear a shirt to bed (silly man!). the weather, however, had cooled down a lot outside by this point so you can imagine she was beginning to get cold, hence why she woke up. i walked in and immediately dressed her in a long sleeved shirt. problem solved! haha! my poor jaccob, bless his heart, sometimes he "forgets" to do certain things like turn on her heater or has "brilliant ideas" like not putting on her shirt, as is the case in this situation...it just comes to show that even as loving and helpful as fathers can be, a mother truly knows best!

so anyway, after i dressed her i picked her up and turned on her sleepy time music (it's an awesome cd with lullabies that puts her right to sleep. it's called Sleep Tight, definitely worth listening to if any of you moms out there are in search of some soft, sweet music to help your little ones fall asleep). as i was holding her, she put her head down on my shoulder and wrapped her arms tightly around my neck. i started swaying to the music to help rock her back to sleep and as i stood there in the dimly lit room, i felt so lucky to have her. it's moments like these that are what it's truly all about, at least for me any way. kids grow up ridiculously fast and before you know it, the newborn that one day spent countless hours asleep in your arms, dressed in the cutest little onesies, little booties and hand mittens is now dancing around to little einsteins, putting on their own shoes and running around the house screaming with glee...

at that moment my big girl still needed me just like she did when she was 6 months old...it completely warmed my heart. no matter how old she gets she'll always be my baby. i know how cliche that sounds, but now that i'm a mother i find, it really is true.

i recently saw this movie with robert de niro called "everybody's fine" and i cried like a baby...i won't ruin the movie for the rest of you, but there are scenes where his character goes to visit his kids and when he first initially sees them, he sees them the way they looked like when they were kids. i could kind of relate to this movie even now, because i know that that's what happens to my parents when they see my sister and i. even now that we're almost 30 and 29 yrs. old they still see us as their little girls. talk about getting all teary eyed!!!

once upon a time...

i started this blog as a way of keeping in touch with family and friends. we moved to guam right after our wedding, so i needed a creative medium in which to share our new life together as newlyweds. as our lives began to change so did our family dynamic! our first addition to the family was our furry baby, kensy, an adorable german shepherd. then our greatest dreams came true when God blessed us with our daughters isabela and anya. almost 7 years later this blog now chronicles our lives as parents and also our kid's lives in both stories and pictures.
