a pinterest inspired birthday party!

3.7.2012

wow! how late am i in posting this on the blog? i threw the girls a joint birthday party, since their birthdays are only a little over a month apart, on february 11th and i'm just now getting to it! haha! i've definitely become more of a procrastinator in my old age! lol!

anyway, like many of thousands of people i have become addicted to this new craze/phenomena called pinterest. it's this fabulous website where you create 'boards' and basically virtually 'pin' pictures of everything and ANYTHING that your little heart desires! it can be a picture of a recipe you want to try, clothes you want to buy, decorations for your house, and in my case (like many, many others i'm sure!)...party ideas!!!

when i started thinking of what theme i wanted the party to be, my first idea was to check on my pinterest boards to see what i had liked decoration wise for the party. o-m-g. you wouldn't believe the incredible amount of ideas i got from other people's party decorating creations! so many frilly, cute and pink decorations to choose from and get inspired by :)

then it came down to the actual theme. i consider myself pretty crafty and sometimes pretty genius so i decided to NOT go with the usual, girly birthday themes of disney princesses, dora the explorer, strawberry shortcake, etc. not that there is anything wrong with them, i just wanted something a little bit more unique. so i headed over to another favorite website of mine, etsy, and started searching...what did i come up with?

isabela & anya's sweet shoppe!!

how adorable and incredibly genius is that?!?! i instantly fell in love and knew that that was what i was going to do! i went crazy and ordered customized invitations, banners, cupcake toppers and also buffet cards. i bought cute bubble gum pink chevron goodie bags to put the different candies in and cupcake baking cups. of course i didn't have enough cake stands so i had to buy two, along with glass containers to put the candy in, a pair of scoops for the candy, balloons, flowers, tablecloth, tissue paper (the kind you use to decorate a gift bag) for the pom poms and some white round paper lanterns.

remember how i mentioned the word genius...yeah, genius...such a cute birthday theme, but i didn't even begin to look at how much everything was going to come out to. haha! ohhhh gabby. you are just too smart! ;) oh well! needless to say, this will be the last time i go this unique for a birthday theme. lol! next year it's just a cake, some balloons and a birthday banner!!! i like to think of this birthday party as the 'quinceanera' of birthday parties...to come once in a lifetime and that's it!

oh and not to give myself a big pat on the back (patting myself on the back as i write this, *pat, pat*) yours truly made the girl's birthday cakes (they each got their own cake), buttercream frosting, and cupcakes! the cakes were inspired by a rosette cake i had seen and pinned on, none other than pinterest, and i made them with my own two hands! it was my first time ever making the buttercream frosting and decorating the cakes with rosettes all over it and i must say that i did a pretty good dang job :) i got many compliments on them and well, i'm just glad they looked semi-decent! hehe!

no, but seriously, i'm so glad that i did it and that i went all out. everything came out beautiful and just the way i had envisioned :) everyone was wowed by it and i don't think it could have come out more amazing! both isabela and anya loved every bit of their party and all the friends and family that got to come out and celebrate them turning 4 and 2 yrs. old! a great time was had by all and if my girls are happy (which was the most important part), then this lady is one happy momma as well!

my beautiful isabela!

once upon a time...

i started this blog as a way of keeping in touch with family and friends. we moved to guam right after our wedding, so i needed a creative medium in which to share our new life together as newlyweds. as our lives began to change so did our family dynamic! our first addition to the family was our furry baby, kensy, an adorable german shepherd. then our greatest dreams came true when God blessed us with our daughters isabela and anya. almost 7 years later this blog now chronicles our lives as parents and also our kid's lives in both stories and pictures.
