no longer my baby :(

6.29.2011

i know my anya is almost 17 months (in 4 days to be exact), but she is definitely not a baby anymore. this fact saddens me. i know i'm not the only mom who feels this way. just one of those things that us mothers have to endure as we raise and watch our children grow up :(

enough sadness for now. anya is growing up so much before my eyes. i joined a mom's group through meetup.com and even some of the moms who i've known for only 2 months have commented on her growth! she is definitely tall for her age. same goes for isabela. what can i say? i have two tall girls on my hands!!

anya, as of about a month ago, is finally drinking exclusively from sippy cups (the ones with the straw)!!! no more bottles. since it's a common recommendation for kids over the age of one to no longer drink through bottles, i kind of felt like i was getting stares from people who were quietly thinking to themselves, "oh my gosh, look at that toddler still drinking milk from a bottle!" i thought to myself, i have to do something about this now before it's too late! haha!

one morning i got the sippy cup out for her (instead of her usual bottle) and she
was not having it! she threw one of the biggest temper tantrums i have ever seen come out of her. she cried and cried and even picked up the sippy and threw it at me. i just quietly put it aside and ignored her. i was not going to give into her tantrum and let her see me give a reaction. after like a minute or two i looked over and she was drinking from the sippy cup as she watched the mickey mouse clubhouse :) she tried to resist the sippy cup for the next couple of mornings (with tantrums, crying and all), but she eventually gave in! score one for mom!

she is acting more independent now and doing so many things alone (even things that scare mommy a little still) like walking down the stairs by herself. she grabs onto the railing and down she goes, ever so slowly, down each step. there are times when i try to hold her hand, but she pulls away and insists on doing it on her own. being the cautious mommy, i always take a couple of steps before her, just in case.

she's liking a lot more food now, but is still a picky eater unlike her sister (even at this young age). she loves fruits, but won't eat a single pea or carrot. oh and she isn't one for meat either. i've tried ham, turkey, ground beef, chicken, and nope, nothing. i guess she'll get there in her own time. we shall see.

so much growing up for my little one...makes me sad, but happy at the same time, knowing that she's growing like she should and doing it in her own way :)

once upon a time...

i started this blog as a way of keeping in touch with family and friends. we moved to guam right after our wedding, so i needed a creative medium in which to share our new life together as newlyweds. as our lives began to change so did our family dynamic! our first addition to the family was our furry baby, kensy, an adorable german shepherd. then our greatest dreams came true when God blessed us with our daughters isabela and anya. almost 7 years later this blog now chronicles our lives as parents and also our kid's lives in both stories and pictures.
