KDO!!!
9.3.10
also known as kid's day out :) i started isabela on this program that is offered at our church and so far so good (then again it's only been A DAY!!) haha! i've been wanting to sign her up somewhere, i even considered a child care center, so that she could be around other kids her age and learn to be a little bit more social and independent. i've actually been thinking about it for a long time, but i hadn't made the decision to do it. i guess you could say i was a little scared and a little weary of it at the same time...the thought of leaving her at a daycare type place kind of freaked me out. don't ask me why.
anyway, i've noticed for a while now that isabela has been a little too attached to me. especially in the last week or so it's been pretty bad. i can't go anywhere without her crying. believe me, it's not an easy thing to handle. the reason why i was weary about it, was because i was afraid of what it would cost us. as many of you know daycares don't come cheap. i was looking around at some places and i was shocked at the prices...$150 a week!!!! you've got to be kidding me!!!! we're trying to save up for our first house and a cost like this would be detrimental to our bank account.
so anyway, my mom told me that she used to take alayna, our neighbors daughter that my mom babysat for since she was 4 weeks old, to our church for 2 days out of the week, but she didn't remember what it was called or the specifics of it. i decided right then and there to make a phone call and ask if they had some sort of program for toddlers...i held my breath...
turns out they DID! i was so excited!!! unfortunately, the lady in charge of it wasn't in the office and wouldn't be coming in until the next day. great :( i left her a voicemail and hoped that they still had spots available. i decided since this was something i was really interested in, i would call around to another catholic church that was near our house to see if they had a similar program. i called and you would never guess who answered...
the lady who was in charge of the same program at our church. that's right! the same lady i had just left a voicemail for!!! talk about being lucky :) i inquired about the KDO program and it turned out that they only had one spot left in the 2 yr. group at our church!!! i instantly jumped on it and told her that i could pretty much guarantee that i wanted that spot for isabela. i would meet with her the next day and check it out for myself. i called jaccob and told him about it and that i really, honestly believed that this would be beneficial for her and her development and he said yes :) i called the lady back and told her we positively, definitely wanted that last spot (better to let her know now before someone else came along wanting to put their child in the program!).
the following day i went to the church and was pleasantly surprised :) it looked like the perfect setting for isabela! each age group is in their own room and each room had 2 teachers. there were all kinds of toys, and arts and crafts and everything else expected in a classroom. i fell for it more and more. isabela would be the last kid allowed in the group, making it a total of 12 students in her class. i think that's a really good number (especially since the 12th man is a huge tradition at a&m!) kind of feels like it's all meant to be ;)
the program is 2 days a week from 9-2:30 p.m., only $17 a day, and most importantly it's offered by our church!!! the kids have morning prayer, free play time, music time, outside play time, lunch time (check out her very first lunch bag below), nap time (i bought her her very own disney princess sleeping bag!), reading time, lesson of the day time, and arts and crafts time. talk about a fun-filled time at "school"!!! her first day was pretty good, they told me she only cried a little bit on and off, but that she especially enjoyed playing outside on the swing set :) of course when i dropped her off and went to pick her up she cried, but that's to be expected. at least for the first few weeks...after that initial adjustment i'm sure she'll be fine.
same goes for mommy! i'm not gonna lie, i was nervous to leave her, just imagining her sitting there missing me and wondering what she's doing all alone (minus the tons of other kids there and all the teachers) and i cried once i got inside the car. i didn't have an all out cryfest, but it was still pretty bad...i just felt like this part inside of me was missing, like there was a tiny little piece of my heart that was gone. i guess that's just part of being a mom. your kids grow up, learn to live without you little bits at a time, until eventually they are all grown up, capable of making their own decisions, good and bad, living their lives the best way they know how given everything they were raised with, and the only thing you can do is be there for them no matter what, loving them, praying for them, caring for them and wishing the best for their futures. ok, ok so i may have gone a little overboard granted that isabela is only 2 yrs. old, but i know that in the blink of an eye it'll be 5, 10, 15 years down the road and i'll be thinking back on all these memories, smiling, laughing and crying all at the same time. sorry to get so deep there ;) i promise, no more of that crazy talk! hehe!!!
when i picked isabela up from "school" at the end of the day i asked her if she had fun and she said yes! thank goodness she liked it there :0) then i asked her if she wanted to come back again and she said yes to that too! all in all i think it's the start of something wonderful! not only will she make friends with other kids her age, but she'll do a lot of learning and growing, and most importantly learn to be a lot more independent, making her transition to preschool a lot more easier when the time comes :) i can't believe my baby girl is growing up so fast...she is such a big girl now and i couldn't be PROUDER of her!!!
