12 month well baby visit, yay.
So yesterday was one of those wonderful days when I had to take Isabela to one of her well baby visits (I mean wonderful in a sarcastic kind of way as I never look forward to taking her to the doctor's by myself...in this instance dreaded seems more appropriate). Anyway, it was her 12 month check up so I knew I was headed for doom...it was that time again for her to receive her immunizations :( This time she would have to endure four whole shots, two in each thigh. *sigh*
Buuuuut, before we get to that fascinating part here are Isabela's stats:
Weight: 23.5 lbs.
Height: 31 in.
She's in the 75 percentile for her weight and the 95 percentile for her height. The doctor said she was a tall girl but that she was slowing down on gaining weight. Totally normal and still definitely growing right on track :)
So we begin- Crying from the top of her lungs, Part I. We leave the nice quite, friendly environment of the doctor's office and we head to Immunizations. *Cue in the Jaws theme song* Believe me you did not want to be there; I know I sure didn't and I sure as heck know Isabela didn't either. Poor baby, was not happy in the slightest when she was being poked with the needle by the nurse. She cried and cried and not even my singing seemed to matter much to her as it had in the past. I think she's just too aware now of what's going on and if she feels something she doesn't like, she's going to let you know! The only good part of it was that once it was over she just rested her head on my shoulder and didn't make a sound. Of course this moment was short lived because I had to also make a stop in the lab so they could draw blood from her to check her iron levels. Crying from the top of her lungs, part II. Even from the moment we sat down and the tech came up to us she started bawling and even more so when they stuck the needle in her arm...ugh...not a good time for us to say the least. The tech somehow lost the vein so they had to resort to the pricking of the finger method. Fun times. We sat there for what seemed like forever as the tech squeezed Isabela's finger so she could fill two small plastic tubes full of blood. I was so happy and relieved when they told me they were finished. Talk about a rough appointment. I know I was so ready to get out of there. So in short, or not so short, that was Isabela's 12 month well baby visit. Thankfully she doesn't have to be seen until her 18 month well baby visit so at least we have some time before the next wonderful visit to the doctor's.
On a much lighter note, Isabela is officially a big girl now because she drinks her milk from a sippy cup and not a bottle. She's also holding the cup by herself and drinking it all by herself :) Definitely makes mama proud! She's still new at it so she sometimes takes it out of her mouth and tries to play with it more than drink from it but she'll soon get the hang of it. She's a fast learner!!!
